Why is Plan so important to your future career progression?

As the saying goes, if you fail to plan, you're planning to fail. With everything that you are required to do - and that's just in the day job - if you don't have a plan of what is needed to drive your career forward, then more often than not, 6 months go by and you never make good on your intentions. After all, watching and waiting isn't going to help you get to partner. When you only have an odd 30 mins here and there to spend on your career progression, you need to know exactly what to focus on. And that is where your Partner Track Plan comes in.

If your plan is really going to help you succeed, you need to consistently implement it.

If you want to drive your career forward, don't rely on your firm You are in charge of your career. Too many people are sitting, working hard hoping that their efforts will get noticed. It just doesn't work like that!

Reflect, ask yourself the hard questions and start planning where you want to be in X amount of time.

Once you've done this, invest in the efforts that will get you there.

Whether that's taking advantage of the training opportunities you have at your firm or paying for your own development and business coach, the rewards of any action are worth it if they move you just that little bit closer to your goal.

Make the time for your career progression - no-one will do it for you!

When you only have an odd 30 mins here and there to spend on your career progression, you need to know exactly what you need to focus on.

So if you're not using a plan every week to drive your personal development it just won't happen.
Which then means your career progression stops.

Your career plan needs to be more than a piece of paper or electronic document that you work through and then forget about for a few month.

It needs to be something that you actually look at and use to guide your activities on a weekly basis.

If your plan is really going to help you succeed, you need to consistently implement it. This means:
👍️ Diarising the actions on your plan
👍️ Implementing a little bit of your career plan every day
👍️ Reviewing and adjusting your plan weekly, monthly and quarterly
👍️ Put time in your diary to work through it - every week.

To really commit to your career ambitions, it’s time to treat your career as if it’s another client.
